HYPNOTHERAPY
WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY?
Hypnotherapy uses relaxation, guided and creative visualisation, positive suggestions and a light trance state to enable you to heal yourself and make changes in your life. It elicits a state of mind in which suggestions are acted upon more powerfully than is possible under normal conditions.
Hypnosis uses safe and simple techniques which may help you to change your unwanted habits, cope with anxiety, be more effective in your personal goals, improve your business achievements, relieve phobias, manage pain, reduce stress and increase your confidence.
e-motions may be able to help you with:

Frequently asked questions:
Is hypnotherapy safe? It is natural and safe, with no harmful side effects.
What is Clinical Hypnosis? Clinical Hypnotherapy is the use of a hypnotic state to treat a variety of psychological problems and psychologically-derived physical problems. Everyone can benefit from the effects of hypnotherapy as it acts to allow the mind to access its own resources and abilities. By doing so, we allow the mind to trigger healing or coping mechanisms.
What is the trance state? The hypnotic state is an altered state of consciousness which allows beneficial directions to be given to our unconscious minds. In the hypnotic state we are awake and aware. The day-dreaming state which we experience is a very apt description of a hypnotic ‘trance’. Our conscious faculties are suspended. Even when in a hypnotic state, we can still reject any of the suggestions made if they are not appropriate.
What are the benefits of Hypnotherapy? Hypnotherapy can help you to maximise your potential and use your inner resources to effect beneficial change. It may be that your innate healing power can be stimulated. The situations where hypnotherapy can help include stress, anxiety, panic, phobias, unwanted habits and addictions (for example, smoking, overeating, excessive drinking), sleep problems, lack of confidence and low self-esteem, fear of examinations, sporting and artistic performance, public speaking, allergies and skin disorders, migraine, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), pain management, emotional problems and other physical manifestations of a psychological origin.
Is it safe? Not only is hypnotherapy safe, it is also approved by the UK’s leading professional medical body. The BMA reviewed the practice of clinical hypnosis in 1955 and declared it an integrative practice, one that can be incorporated alongside standard medical disciplines. It endorsed the practice of hypnosis in medical school education. Since then it has become a valuable supplement (and, in some cases, a substitute) to conventional medical treatment. There are no harmful side-effects.
Will I lose control? No. You remain in full control and will even be able to talk if you wish. Acceptance or rejection of any of the given suggestions is fully within your control. The therapeutic hypnosis is a state of purposeful co-operation.
I have a horror that I might do something foolish - am I likely to behave like stage hypnosis participants? No. There is a huge misconception of stage hypnosis. Participation in stage hypnosis is an entirely voluntary process and all volunteers are entirely aware of what participation in stage hypnosis involves. By volunteering, the participant is giving the hypnotist permission to encourage them to behave in an entertaining way. It is a fact that no one can be hypnotised against their will.
Is hypnotherapy ever contra-indicated (considered innappropriate)? Yes. There are areas where hypnotherapy is contra-indicated. This could arise in some cases of depressive illness-psychosis and where patients are under the influence of mind-altering drugs. Also, there are some techniques which would be contra-indicated in epilepsy. In the first session a detailed case history is taken so as to identify any situation where hypnotherapy would not be appropriate.
How long will therapy take? This will depend on the presenting symptom (the problem). In some cases all that is needed is a simple “get-back-on-track” therapy where the desired outcome can be achieved very swiftly – perhaps a maximum of three sessions. In more severe cases the number of sessions required may be greater. The expected duration of the therapy will be discussed with you in your first session and will be reassessed throughout the course of therapy.
Will Hypnotherapy be effective? Hypnotherapy may even succeed where other, more conventional, methods of treatment have not produced the desired results. With a realistic goal, a willingness to find a solution and a professionally-trained and skilled hypnotherapist in whom you trust and have confidence, you can achieve your desired result.
Will the benefits wear off? The benefits of hypnotherapy can be long lasting and even permanent.
